I’m not so thrilled with online social networking. In fact I feel like I am participating in some bizarre social ritual and play my part by filling in the blanks. Sure it’s mildly entertaining, sure it fills my time, But I am thinking I could find some other pretty sweet uses of those minutes of my life I will never get back again. Seriously got invited to a network called LinkedIn, and I won’t pretend like I don’t know what that is. I often play dumb ’cause thats my angle, no surprise there, but I am in no way ‘linked in’. Believe me, when I am linked in, I will be dead inside. Corporate America will have branded my ass and eaten my soul. I will fully admit that my one talent inside the confines of capitalism would include a tarp and a hatchet. Meaning, I am a good cleaner. That in itself is a admission that I could heartlessly end many peoples professional pursuits through validation of incompetence and accountancy. In fact, if I did go to the dark side I could probably even do it and sleep well at night. Unfortunately, this go around I just don’t care enough to really want to clean house. Yadda Yadda Yadda and some more self incriminating yadda.
You know what else gets under my skin, people who move out to the suburbs in white flight, to take advantage of the county schools, tax’s and overabundance of pre-fab homes. They work in the city, play in the city, eat in the city, take advantage of all the amenities but don’t want the hassle of actually taking responsibility for the city. They drive in, polluting our air, using our roads, calling our police, ambulance and fire dept. Go to our museums, zoo’s, colleges and church’s. They are entertained on our bluff, eat our “soul food” and drink all over downtown lapping up the arts and entertainment, but do they actually do anything in return for the city? I could go on forever. I have proposed that there be a business incentive for each company within the city limits be given a tax break per employee that lives within the city limits and a penalty for everyone that lives outside of those limits. I also think that every city employee should have to live within the city limits and was horrified that the bill didn’t pass, I don’t care how you shuffle them.
How can anyone complain about the urban development, schools and politics if they don’t even live in the city they are taking advantage of? I have even thought about tolls.
Next Soap Box…that damn Greenline. What a waste in a city that doesn’t have adequate public transportation.
